Modern Slavery Statement

Modern slavery is a brutal form of organised crime in which people are treated as commodities and exploited for criminal gain. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) estimates that 21 million men, women and children are working in conditions of modern slavery, including trafficked persons. The vast majority of these people are in the supply chain of legitimate industries.

Balfour Beatty is committed to working within our own business and supply chain to ensure that we implement a proactive approach to tackling hidden labour exploitation and reducing these practices in our wider supply chain.

Modern slavery resources

A number of our businesses are required to produce a statement under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 setting out the steps being taken to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our businesses and supply chain, which is accessible below. We have also summarised our statement into a shorter document which highlights the key activities we are undertaking.

Our risk assessments revealed that the most significant risks, from modern slavery perspective arise in our material and subcontract procurement. We have therefore produced some guidance for suppliers which sets out the legal framework in this area and Balfour Beatty's requirements.
